Founded 1964 by Jerry Masucci, Fania Records holds a legendary spot in the history of Latin Music: Its catalog includes landmark recordings that have marked and defined the history of Latin Music. During its heyday in the 1970s, Fania's roster included virtually every luminary of the genre, among them Héctor Lavoe, Willie Colón, Celia Cruz, Larry Harlow, Ruben Blades, Eddie Palmieri, Ray Barretto and Tito Puente. In addition co-founder and band-leader Johnny Pacheco also created the fabled Fania All-Stars, a kind of all star super band that took Salsa Music to the world. |

What is Salsa ?
Salsa is
a Latin American music genre that originated in New York as a result of the
mixture of afro caribbean music brought by the Latinos (Puerto Rican, Cuban,
Colombian, Venezuelan, Panamanian, Dominican) and North American Jazz and Rock.
Since then, it has migrated over countries and islands
increasing its diversity of influences in this way. Therefore, Salsa is not
a fashion phenomenon but an established music style with high artistic merit
and important social and cultural meaning: it sets no limits between age and
class.

Qué es la Salsa ?
Salsa es un estilo de música latinoamericana que surgió en Nueva York como resultado del choque de la música afrocaribeña traída por puertoriqueños, cubanos, colombianos, venezolanos, panameños y dominicanos, con el Jazz y el Rock de los norteamericanos. Desde ese entonces, vive deambulando de isla en isla, de país a país, incrementando de tal manera, su riqueza de elementos. Es asi que la Salsa no es una moda pasajera, sinó una corriente musical establecida, de alto valor artístico y gran significado sociocultural: en ella no existen barreras de clase ni de edad.

Salsa ist eine lateinamerikanische Musik-Stilrichtung, die in New York entstanden ist, als die afrokaribische Musik verschiedener Einwanderer aus ehemaligen Spanischen Kolonien, (Puerto Rico, Kuba, Kolumbien, Venezuela, Panama, Dominikanische Republik) mit dem Jazz und Rock der Nordamerikaner zusammenstieß und sich mit denen vermischte.Seitdem wandert sie ständig von Insel zu Insel, von Land zu Land, hin und zurück und vergrößert somit ihre Vielfältigkeit an Einflüssen. Salsa ist also keine Mode-Erscheinung, sondern eine etablierte Musikrichtung von hohem künstlerischen Wert und großer soziokultureller Bedeutung; sie kennt keine Alters- oder Klassengrenzen.

calypso, salsa, y las más bellas muestras rítmico-melódicas de la Costa Caribe
colombiana, encuentran su momento en el programa Concierto Caribe, acompañadas
de comentarios socio-históricos que se matizan con anécdotas y el pensamiento
de los más connotados vocalistas, instrumentistas, compositores y escritores
caribeños."
