Founded 1964 by Jerry Masucci, Fania Records holds a legendary spot in the history of Latin Music: Its catalog includes landmark recordings that have marked and defined the history of Latin Music. During its heyday in the 1970s, Fania's roster included virtually every luminary of the genre, among them Héctor Lavoe, Willie Colón, Celia Cruz, Larry Harlow, Ruben Blades, Eddie Palmieri, Ray Barretto and Tito Puente. In addition co-founder and band-leader Johnny Pacheco also created the fabled Fania All-Stars, a kind of all star super band that took Salsa Music to the world. |

John Santos comes from San Francisco, his family from Puerto Rico and Cape Verde. He is wordwidely recognized as musicologist and percussionist. In 1986 he founded the latin jazz band MACHETAZO directed by himself. During the last ten years he has recorded 5 CD´s under his name and worked together with wellknown musicians like Cachao, Dizzie Gillespie, Tito Puente, Max Roach, Santana, and others.
John Santos es originario de San Francisco; sus ancestros de Puerto Rico y Cabo Verde. Es reconocido internacionalmente como musicólogo y percusionista. En 1986 fundó el grupo de latin-jazz MACHETAZO bajo su dirección. Durante los 10 últimos años ha grabado 5 álbumes bajo su nombre y ha trabajado con músicos de renombre como Cachao, Dizzie Gillespie, Tito Puente, Max Roach, Santana y otros.
John Santos stammt aus San Francisco, seine Familie aus Puerto Rico und Kap Verde. Er ist ein international anerkanter Musikwissenschaftler und Perkussionist. 1986 gründete er die von Ihm geleitete Latin Jazz Gruppe MACHETAZO. Unter seinem Namen hat er in den letzten 10 Jahren 5 CD´s eingespielt und hat mit bekannten Musikern wie Cachao, Dizzie Gillespie, Tito Puente, Max Roach, Santana u.a. zusammengearbeitet.
